Please call Governor Dayton at 651-201-3400 or 800-657-3717 and tell him these three things, in order:
“Hi Governor Dayton,
My name is ________, I live in ___________, MN. I’m calling in regards to House File 113 and Senate File 85, and House File 234 and 235. I do not support the passage of these bills, because they are concerning to me for multiple reasons:
1. HF234 and HF235, if passed, will stifle solar and renewable development in Minnesota. We need to be sending a signal to clean energy markets that Minnesota is open for business, and this does the opposite of that.
2. HF113 and SF85 would gut consumer protections by ignoring the regulatory process and would give Xcel a blank check to build a new natural gas plant, without factoring in least cost to energy users, like myself.
2. The Public Utilities Commission exists for a reason, and that’s to make sure that monopolies like Xcel don’t overcharge their customers. I don’t want to have to pay more for a new gas plant if there are lesser cost alternatives that could be identified through the regulatory process.
3. Building a big natural gas plant locks in more fossil fuels into our state’s energy mix during a time where we must be reducing greenhouse gas emissions, methane included.
Please do everything you can to reject these bills and protect Xcel ratepayers.
