About MN350

MN350 is an innovative Minnesota-based 501(c)3 organization formed in 2011 as a locally controlled spinoff of the international organization 350.org. MN350 is growing a statewide network of supporters. MN350 works locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally through a variety of means. We partner with indigenous, people-of-color led, community, labor, and faith groups. Together we build expertise in the most effective ways to impact decisions affecting the future of the Earth. People powered and led we work everyday in effective ways, small and large, to influence the building of a transition to a just, clean, energy future.

What does 350 mean?

The number 350 means climate safety: to preserve a livable planet, scientists tell us we must reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere from its current level of 400 parts per million to below 350 ppm.

The People's Climate March in Washington, D.C. — May, 2017

MN350 aims to make Minnesota a leader in the movement to a clean energy economy and to be a model of an inclusive volunteer-led climate justice organization. In 2016, working in diverse coalitions, MN350 and our partners:

  • Stopped the Sandpiper fracked oil pipeline which would have transported 225,000 barrels/day of fracked crude oil.
  • Successfully demanded that new tar sands pipelines undergo comprehensive environmental review.
  • Won climate friendly changes to US Bank’s investments review policy.
  • Convened new community-based partners to work for clean energy policies that center racial equity.
  • Convinced Minneapolis to investigate using a new bank not invested in DAPL and Hennepin County Sherrif’s Office to withdraw deputies from Standing Rock.
  • Mobilized thousands of participants for national and regional events including Break Free Midwest and Standing Rock solidarity actions.
  • After the elections, stood with our immigrant communities and convened a 400-person emergency climate justice meeting.
